"155 miles. 7 days. 117-degree heat. They call it the Gobi March, an annual ultramarathon that draws some of the world’s most elite athletes to a remote desert in western China. It’s just the kind of challenge that Kyle McCoy lives for."

Two weekends ago, we sent four SOG runners and gunners to compete at this year's Home with Heroes 5k Run & Gun. SOG actively sponsors and partners with Home with Heroes. They are a non-profit that brings veterans together in the outdoors to honor and thank them for their service. If you were following us last week, we set up a contest to see if you can guess their total (post-penalty) time for running and gunning the event. The closest guess to our actual time will a FastHawk, Tomahawk, and Throwing Knives!

Imagine traveling from Philadelphia, PA to Montpelier, VT to meet up with some friends for a hunting trip. In the back of your SUV, you pack in all your gear along with your legally owned rifle and knives. Your gun is unloaded and locked in a case and your box of ammunition is locked in a separate container. Your 3.6-inch fixed blade hunting knife is in a sheath next to the gun case and folding knife with a 2.8-inch blade is clipped in your pocket like it has been every day. Your gun and knives are legal in both Pennsylvania and Vermont. Two hours into the trip, you get arrested.

    Knives 101: Cleaning & Lubricating

    Posted by #TakePoint

Just like the old saying "a dull knife is a dangerous knife," a dirty knife is also dangerous. Dirt, pocket lint, food, and other unwanted foreign material can get into the pivot and locks of a folding knife. This can prevent the knife from opening or closing properly or from locking fully in either open or closed position. Even a dirt on a blade can end up in your stomach if you use it for any food preparation or cause premature wear on the blade. Serious injuries can occur from an improperly working knife. To keep the knife in perfect working shape, it's important to properly clean and lube it as part of its regular maintenance. This applies whether you have a folding knife or fixed blade.
