Description

The first thing that is obvious about the Force is how stout and built it is. The thick blade and minimal grind profiles maximize the strength of the blade. The handle is perfectly contoured and covered in aggressive checkering for improved grip in inclement weather. The Force is designed for extreme, long operations.

    Cryogenic Heat Treatment

    Cryogenic Heat Treatment

SOG's unique cryogenic heat treatment process slowly decreases the knife temperature to -300 F, then brings it back up to room temperature again. This process relieves the blade material on an atomic level, resulting in an overall increase in toughness and heightened wear-resistance. Additionally, knife edges stay sharper longer and demonstrate a significant decrease in micro-fracturing and edge-chipping.

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Force is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Sheath... The only problem is the sheath. It's the equivalent of giving a Ferrari bike wheels! It just can't handle any wear or abuse. The plastic liner has popped out several times and the velcro popped of the thing that holds the knife in better. The knife itself is 5 out of 5 stars! SOG you're the Ferrari of knives, no more bike wheels!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Knife I own 'Force' for over the year, and love it, solid, well balanced, indestructible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast in the Bush? Well... The spin on the Force is true, to a point. It's a stout knife and I've used it in the Cascades for everything a bush knife should do. But as for the "minimal grind", that's bogus. Here are the trade offs I've found. It gets crazy sharp and holds the edge well. The AUS 8 is a great balance of toughness and edge holding. It's on the same playing field as the German 1.4116 that I've loved and used hunting, trapping, and tramping since the '60s. The grip and pommel work exceptionally well. That's something my White Hunter couldn't do - ever. Pounding out bark chunks for tinder or working down to the heart wood of a dead branch for the same purpose, the Force's grip was solid but not skin removing IF you use a little (not too much) sand paper on the grip before going afield. The spine is what carries the day for the SOG Force. I squared it off with a few minutes file work and Force works very well with Ferro rods when needed. Yeah, I prefer a chunk of quartz or flint for that work, but in the snow those can be hard to find so I prep the knife for the job. The Force works great here. It's also user-friendly when using hand pressure on the spine for material processing. SOG put a hollow grind on the Force though and it's way beyond "minimal". That's where they traded ability to slice/dice like a kitchen knife for the one thing I was looking for when I bought it - brute strength. A full convex grind, or even better a Scandi / Psuedo-Scandi grind, would have lived up to the advertisement perfectly. The grind they put on the Force was the wrong choice for a long-haul bush knife. Bottom line is the Force works well. It's not what they say in the ads though. I recommend it to anyone looking for an all-around cutting tool for field use. Just be aware of the hype on the "minimal grind". Hopefully they'll listen and not be offended. Dear SOG - By use of the same steel, size, grip and most of the same design specs, but with a no-compromise grind this time, then you would truly have the long-haul, hard case tool the Force could be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast I bought this knife two months ago and I have used it extensively on three backpacking trips in the North Cascades Mountains. This knife is a "BEAST" and I mean it's lightweight and easy to carry on my backpack. This knife will do all the chores you need from cutting and splitting wood to feathering wood to build a fire. It's one tough knife!!! I mean better than the Becker Bk7 and Coldsteel SRK bar non!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TANK I got this three years ago and it still looks brand new after going through serious punishment. It's crazy expensive, but the Force's dependability definitely out-ways the cost. This is a tank of a knife.

    SOG Unconditional Pocket Clip Warranty

Pocket clips can be broken if they are accidentally caught on foreign objects while wearing. To help prevent such occurrences, SOG recommends that you wear your knife in your front pocket, with the knife inside your pocket. Damage to a knife handle because a clip has snagged is not considered "normal," and any such damage will be assessed under warranty. Learn more about replacing pocket clips in Knife & Tool Care.
