Description

Since 1959, the M61 Vulcan and its derivatives is a 20mm 6-barrel Gatling-style rotary cannon that has been in service in many United States military aircraft through several wars. It fires standard M50 ammunition at 6,000 rounds per minute and is integral part of the armament of modern fighters such as the F-15, F-18, and F-16.

Built upon the M61 Vulcan’s reputation of speed, power, and versatility, the SOG Vulcan is also formidable with a powerful strength of construction. There is nothing weak about the Vulcan. For instance, our patented Arc-Lock™ can hold over 1000 lbs. of force. The full steel liners encased in glass reinforced nylon (GRN) handles give the knife rigidity and durability. The blade is a full .160" thick with drop point shape and includes a double thumb stud and kick for quick, ambidextrous deployment and use. Combining the usability and construction of the knife with a durable VG-10 stainless steel blade make this folder a great addition to the Vulcan name.

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Vulcan is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great and fits my hand perfectly A while back I was looking for a knife. The first SOG knife I saw was the Vulcan Mini. Nice knife, but it was too small for my hand. I could only fit three fingers on the handle. Then I tried the regular Vulcan. Perfect fit. My entire hand fit nicely around the handle. No slipping or any fingers hanging off the end. I would recommend this knife to anyone that wants a full size, locking blade knife that easily fits in your pocket. Obviously, if you want spring assist opening, this is not the knife for you, but I thought this was a great alternative to having to use a safety or having it accidentally open in your pocket. One thing to keep in mind though. The blade does need frequent sharpening. Even with the super hard steel, it just doesn't hold an edge for long. Even still, I would buy another one of these in a minute.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Another SOG that I initially bought as a gift and had to have one! Well made and tough. Gets a lot of attention when I use it from knife fans. Quality components, durable steel maintains edge a fits well into your palm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built, nice lines, and versatile shape to the I have owned this knife for some time, and it feels great in the hand. The spear point tip and the re-curve in the mid blade, make this a very versatile blade. There is great heft to the blase and the handle texturing promotes a firm grip at all times. I highly recommend this blade. Only draw back is the weakness in the pocket clip due to the overall length, however, it should not deter anyone from owning this knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rad Vulcan I've had my Vulcan for about one year now. I told my son that I wanted a SOG knife for my birthday and he picked the Vulcan. I was a little leery as I had the Twitch XL as my daily carry and thought nothing would beat it or even match. Well, the Vulcan is presently in my pocket as my daily carry as I am typing this review. I like it over other knives because it is single hand opening and closing. It is balanced perfectly. Holding one finger just in back and under the blade lock release you find the center of balance. This is in the perfect spot as you hold the knife fully in your hand. It feels like an extension of your own hand. The blade releases from the handle like warm butter. Holding the knife, clip pointing up and lock release towards the ground. Release the blade and it opens fully and locks with gravity...that is how smooth it is. There is absolutely no blade play. Try moving the blade to find a back and forth wiggle. None. Tight as a drum. The blade looks mean and durable. It is. I have used it now for a year on different applications from box cutting to wood whittling and it holds its edge very well. I use a wet stone for sharpening and it is always impressive to friends and colleagues who ask to borrow my Vulcan. I warn them not to see how sharp it is by touching the blade because you can almost shave with this knife. Very sharp. The clip is the perfect weight and size. I can easily withdraw it off of my pant's pocket and immediately open it single handidly with one smooth fluid motion. Other knives are too attached to remove without effort...not the Vulcan. I love this knife. I am a big SOG fan . I own Benchmade, Gerber, and others, but I tell my friends, "Buy a SOG Vulcan".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vulcan Supremacy I've owned my Vulcan for a few months now and without a doubt the best folder I've ever owned! On top of being unbelievably sharp, having thumb-studs as well as flipper separates it from other high-end folding knives. It's held it's edge quite nicely and to be honest, just looks better than most blades at it's price-point. I never hit the door without this on my person, in pocket or EDC pack. In a word, outstanding! BK

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice knife I bought this knife and had exceeded my expectations. this knife opens fast left or right handed you can pull back the arc lock and flick it open and closed or just open with the thumb studs and flipper. the steel is nice too its a little harder than 440c super steel. the other nice thing is the metal frame under the plastic handle. the knife locks straight and tight.I carry a gerber parrbellum most of the time on my side everyday. this knife is comparable in versatility obviously not size but otherwise an awesome everyday carry. Sog Makes a good overall product. I cant say I like all of the tools made by sog but all multi tools and knifes have their purpose and specific needs. this knife fits my needs but maby not all others. for instance the flash II is not good for things like widdling because of the plastic frame but the twitch or any other knife with a metal frame would be good because of the hard twisting motion that can cause the plastic to flex and make the lock fail. all full plastic handle knifes are good for cutting and slicing and defending yourself because they are light and more affordable. the point is don't use a knife out of the tools "comfort zone"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic! This is the best folding knife I have ever owned! I love the arc-lock and the handle has great ergonomics and texture. Thu clip wiggles and flexes side to side a bit. Would be nicer if the clip were a bit more resilient, but I love the bayonet style. The blade is thick through the center of the blade, but the spine tapers inward towards the point for easy piercing and the edge has a hollow grind for great cutting power in a blade that will never never snap (within reason). the vg10 steel sharpens really well and keeps it's edge like a champ With good rust resistance. I personally don't like the flipper to open the blade, but that's peronal preference. It is a bit pricey, but for the quality and durability it is easily worth it's price and then some. if the clip was more rigid it would get perfect marks out of me all around!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from quality knife the vulcan is a great all around tactical/edc knife. large enough to do the big chores as well as a defensive blade, but small enough to do the finer things. carries well, has a great purchase and nice jibbing. excellent locking system. i gave a 3 in design solely because of the pocket clip...the design of the triangular holes leaves the clip weak at the top. mine got snagged on something and cracked instantly resulting in no tension. the pocket clip is rendered useless now. bottom line, it really is a great knife to carry because it fits the bill for most anything one could come across.
