Customer Ratings & Reviews

Kydex Sheath (SEAL Team/Elite) is rated 1.6667 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, not what I expected... I seem to have acquired an early model of the SOG Seal Team knife made in Japan... an excellent blade, with a good nylon sheath. They are now made in Taiwan. The OEM Japanese nylon sheath has MOLLE attachment points, which is a great feature, but the retention strap is only Velcro, and it does not inspire confidence when attached upside down on my vest. (In retrospect, I should have simply placed a snap on the strap and had an excellent, MOLLE-compatible sheath). I ordered this Kydex sheath but failed to notice that it had rivets and slots only on one side. This makes it more difficult to attach securely to my vest with paracord (paracord used because it has no provision for MOLLE attachment). Furthermore, my early-model Seal Team knife does not seem to fit the sheath properly. When inserted fully, it opens-up the sheath excessively in the area of the fingerguard (see attached pics). It puts excessive stress on the area of the screw that retains the belt loop. I think it is just a matter of time before it fails/cracks at this location. The knife has to be fully inserted in order to retain well... a little less than fully-seated in the sheath and it falls out when inverted. Additionally, the excellent snap-strap on this Kydex sheath is too tight. When the knife is filly seated, the strap registers at the high-spot between the finger grooves of the handle. I am sure the strap was designed to sit IN the finger groove, but then the knife sits too far out and drops out as soon as unsnapped, landing on the concrete floor below, ruining what was a razor-sharp edge. I find it hard to criticize SOG too much given that my knife is clearly an early model and not to the exact dimensions of the current-production model, but I think that they should note that somewhere under the specs so there is no misunderstanding. I would have returned this sheath were it not for the cost of shipping back and the re-stocking FEE. As it is, I will get out my heat-gun and attempt to modify the fit for improvement. A recommendation to SOG: make a Kydex sheath that is MOLLE-compatible, AND put rivets and slots on both sides. The snap-strap is really good... make it adjustable? Let your customers know this sheath is not compatible with your early line of Japanese-made Seal Team knives...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Having to replace/find a new sheath. Disappointed. Sheath has fallen apart and one can no longer wear the knife. The knife I can recommend. The sheath is bogus b/c knife is too sharp to just carry around w/o it's sheath. Came here to SOG online to find solution but they're selling same old sheath. Frustrating. Again...THE KNIFE IS GREAT, BUT THE SHEATH....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not recomended I got my SOG seal team elite more than a year ago and its a wonderful knife, but the hardplastic sheath that came with it was not impressive. The sheath is currently falling apart due to the screws near the base of the end of the handle. and im pretty sure it is slowly dulling my blade with every time i take it out of the sheath. just go get the nylon sheath, it has much better ratings.
